About the Photographer:

For William Clavijo, photography is a distension, a space of silence in a restless mind, a response to the stressful work routine he experienced in the industry, a possibility of reconnection with the past in the contry side of Uruguay. Born in 1954, he spent his childhood in rural areas, in the department of Florida, traveling long distances on horseback, by train or on foot to get to school. He emigrated to Brazil in 1982 after studying at the Uruguayan Technical School of Aeronautics. In the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, he began a journey of thirty-five years in the industry, most of this period in an oil refinery. Close to retiring, photography took a central place in his process of self-knowledge and opened a path of creativity and detachment from the personality hardened by working life. A persistent traveler, he finds a way to build his photographs in attentive observation and contemplation. It uses digital post-production to complement and refine the creative process that does not end with capturing images. He frequently participates in exhibitions, festivals and competitions, having achieved national and international awards. Distinction of Brazilian Photographer Artist by the Brazilian Confederation of Photography. He was President of Foto Clube Porto Alegrense, in Rio Grande do Sul, Biennium 2020-2022.
